Sidewalk On Bridge Closed For Replacement Project In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The sidewalk on the Route 52/Stainton Memorial Causeway is set to be closed this week for a replacement project, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) said.

The sidewalk will be closed starting Monday and continuing through Friday afternoon, as an ADA maintenance project advances in Ocean City and Somers Point.

From 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27 and continuing daily through Friday, Oct. 31 at the same time over, the sidewalk on the Route 52/Stainton Memorial Causeway is scheduled to be closed between milepost 0 to milepost 2.0. The sidewalk closure is necessary to remove the existing sidewalk, pour concrete and allow for curing of the new concrete sidewalk. In addition, the Route 52/Stanton Memorial Causeway southbound shoulder will be closed to improve work zone safety. If work is completed earlier the sidewalk and shoulder will be reopened sooner.

Pedestrians and cyclists are advised not to use the Causeway during construction for their safety, NJDOT said.

This work is part of a $4 million maintenance contract that will repair and upgrade sidewalks and curb ramps to meet ADA standards on Route 30 and Route 52 in Atlantic and Cape May counties. The project is expected to be completed late-spring 2026.

A separate $3 million project to rehabilitate the decorative lights on the Route 52/Stainton Memorial Causeway is ongoing. The decorative lights have been turned off temporarily while work is taking place. Once work on the lighting system is completed, NJDOT will continue to work with theb community to illuminate the bridge for special events.
