Superintendent Search Continues In Ocean City

The search for a new superintendent is a priority for the Ocean City Board of Education in the new year.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Ocean City Board of Education is making the search for a new superintendent a priority in 2024.

Interim Superintendent Terrence Crowley is currently leading the 1900-plus student Ocean City School District (OCSD). Crowley stepped in on Jan. 1, 2024 to guide the district during the new search for a superintendent.

Crowley took over from Interim Superintendent Scott P. McCartney, who replaced Matthew Friedman after he left the district for a new job in Pennsylvania, less than one year after starting in Ocean City. Read more: Interim Superintendent Named For Ocean City School District

"Although we are undertaking a new search, we are doing so with the benefit of lessons learned over the course of the last couple years," OCSD BOE president Kevin Barnes said. "We have received and reviewed stakeholder input that will assist the Board in interviewing candidates and in choosing an exceptional leader for our district."

The district posted the position on the New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA) website (www.njasa.net), and to the district site (oceancityschools.org). The position requirements can also be found on Facebook, NJSchoolJobs.com, The New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA), The New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO), Stockton University and Rowan University, among others.

"Our district operates in an outstanding environment," Barnes said. "Our students, teachers, administrators, and facilities are second to none, which will entice exceptional talent to apply for the position. The board is extremely focused on the search and will diligently assess all candidates in a time-sensitive manner. Although our timeline is aggressive, we will not sacrifice diligence in choosing the right leader for Ocean City Schools."

The district said it will select a superintendent who is not only knowledgeable on educational matters but will provide leadership to continue the success of the students.
