Surf Casting Contest Kicks Off 3-Day Fishing Tournament
The Ocean City Fishing Club sponsors the event as part of its 100th anniversary celebration.
More than 250 anglers are in town for the three-day Surf Fishing Tournament that marks the 100th anniversary of the Ocean City Fishing Club, and the event kicked off Thursday morning with a surf casting demonstration and contest.
Representing Century Rods, Troy Roberts started the day by demonstrating an easy 600-foot cast. With a 16-foot rod and using a pendulum motion to set up, Roberts casted the length of two football fields on the beach at 17th Street.
The demo preceded an informal surf casting contest among tournament participants.
