Years After Devastating Fire, Ocean City Arcade Sets Reopening
A four-alarm fire destroyed Playland's Castaway Cove's arcade in early 2021. But it shouldn't be closed for much longer.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — It was Jan. 30, 2021 when an accidental four-alarm fire ripped through Playland's Castaway Cove, destroying the amusement park's arcade and the famous pirate ship sitting on its roof. Since then, the arcade has been closed. But it won't be so for much longer, officials said.
"Things are really moving along, so we are shooting to re-open Spring 2025!" Playland's Castaway Cove shared in a Facebook update, also sharing photos of the progress. A specific date was not shared.
In spring of 2023, the amusement park got zoning board approval to not only rebuild that iconic pirate ship, but also adding a "family-friendly" roller coaster.
