Title 1 Program Meeting Wednesday at Central Middle School

With the recent changes happening at Central Middle School recently, there's a positive change for a few students. 

There's a parent meeting on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the media center for those whose students have "been selected to participate in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District Title 1 Supplemental Program during the 2013-2014 school year," said Principal Norman Francis Jr. in a letter to parents.

"The Title 1 Program is a Literacy and Math Intervention Program designed to support identified students by monitoring each child’s academic progress. At CMS, this program includes reading support, and remedial math (RMW Math)," said Francis. "Placement in the program is based on multiple measures including but not limited to report card grades, teacher input, class assessments and the NJASK results."

According to the district's School-Parent Compact, the district is "participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children. As part of the compact, there are responsabilities that the school needs to meet, but also responsibilities for the parent and student as well. 

Some parent responsibilities include monitoring attendance, arrival time, homework completion and amount/quality of television, computer and video games their child is engaged in. Student responsibilities include doing their homework every day and asking for help when needed as well as reading 15-30 minutes every day outside of school time.
