Drugs, Package Theft: Parsippany Police Blotter

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany Police made several arrests recently, including for theft and drugs. Read about those arrests here, as written by police:
9/29/18 at 4:11 p.m., near 1470 Route 46: Patrol Officer S. Abrusci observed a 2007 Honda Civic fail to maintain its lane while traveling west on Route 46. He conducted a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Tahir Quraishi, a 30 year old male from Parsippany. After a brief investigation he was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana, suspected THC powder, suspected THC wax/Hashish, and drug paraphernalia. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. While there he was charged with the following:
- 1 count of 3rd Degree Manufacturing/Distributing/Possession with the Intent to Distribute more than 50 grams of Marijuana
- 1 count of 4th Degree Possession of more than 50 grams of Marijuana
- 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession or Distribution of CDS within 1,000 Feet of School Property (over 50 grams of Marijuana)
- Possession of Less than 5 Grams of Hashish and THC Wax, a Disorderly Persons Offense
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Disorderly Persons Offense
- Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle (Traffic Offense)
- Failure to Maintain Lane (Traffic Offense)
He was released on his own recognizance pending his court date.

9/30/18 at 1:59 p.m., 300 Parsippany Road: A resident responded to police headquarters to report a stolen package. The victim advised Patrol Officer K. Hawthorne that a package that was marked delivered on 9/28/18 was not present outside of her residence when she looked for it. The victim stated the package contained $150.00 worth of clothing.
This incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Division at 973-263-4311.

9/30/18 at 7:39 p.m., 350 New Road- Wawa Parking Lot: Patrol Officer R. Taylor was patrolling the area of 350 New Road when he made contact with Matthew Banta, 46 year old male from West Milford, NJ and another male standing outside of a 2001 Pontiac Firebird. Upon arrival of Patrol Officer J. Garza and D. Sisco, they made contact with Jessica Doty, a 29 year old female from West Milford, NJ, who was sitting inside the vehicle.
During the course of their investigation, it was discovered that Mr. Banta and Mrs. Doty both gave false personal information to officers. They also found Ms. Doty had 4 active warrants for her arrest and Mr. Banta had 2 active warrants for his arrest. Mr. Banta and Ms. Doty were both placed under arrest. Upon further investigation Ms. Doty was also found to be in possession of 62 wax folds containing suspected Heroin, 9 vials of suspected cocaine, and multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia. They were both transported to police headquarters for processing. While there they were charged with the following:
Mr. Banta-
- 1 count of 4th Degree Hinder Apprehension
- Being under the Influence of CDS without a Prescription, a Disorderly Persons Offense
Mrs. Doty-
- 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession of CDS (Heroin)
- 1 count of 3rd Degree Possession of CDS (Cocaine)
- 1 count of 4th Degree Hindering Apprehension
- Being under the Influence of CDS without a Prescription, a Disorderly Persons Offense
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Disorderly Persons Offense
- Possession of a Hypodermic Needle, a Disorderly Persons Offense
- Both individuals were transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending their court date.
