PARSIPPANY, NJ — Drivers should expect closures and detours as construction begins this week on a major street improvement project, said Parsippany Police.

Officials said the first phase of the North Beverwyck Road Streetscape Project beings with a water main replacement, which is scheduled to begin around Wednesday, June 26 and take four to five weeks to complete. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The first area to be affected will be from Claudine Terrace to Lake Shore Drive, said police.

There will be a lane shift for northbound vehicles traveling from the Route 46 side of North Beverwyck into Lake Hiawatha.

Southbound traffic will be detoured through the area, beginning at the intersection of North Beverwyck and Lake Shore Drive. Traffic will make a right onto Lake Shore Drive, a left onto South Roosevelt Avenue, and then will end at Vail Road.

A separate detour will also be put in place for commercial truck traffic, which directs drivers left onto Lake Shore Drive and then ending at Vail Road.

Police said the routes were selected to minimize traffic issues at intersections, and to accommodate the larger turn radiuses needed for commercial trucks.

"Please note we will be reevaluating the routes as needed and they are subject to modification at any time," police said. "We realize the impact the increased traffic has on the residential streets and will be monitoring the area for traffic violations."

The Streetscape Project consists of a full depth reconstruction of North Beverwyck Road, along with sidewalk reconstruction, decorative street light installation, water main replacement, and milling and resurfacing. The project also includes the installation of drainage structures and drainage piping, according to township planning documents.
