Man Shoots Self In Face While Cleaning Gun in Parsippany: Cops

Victim transported from Route 46 hotel to hospital Thanksgiving night, police report.

A man suffered a gunshot wound to the face while cleaning his firearm on Thanksgiving, Parsippany police said.

Officers responded to 949 Route 46, the location of the Ramada Limited hotel, at 10:19 p.m. for a report of a person who had shot himself, Officer Brian Conover said.

When officers arrived they spoke with the victim, who was not identified by police, who said he was cleaning his firearm and accidentally shot himself in the face, Conover said.

Officers gave medical aid to the victim and he was subsequently transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Rockaway Neck Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

No charges have been filed but the investigation is ongoing, police said.
