Morris Co. Teacher Named NJ Teacher Of The Year

"She is devoted, collaborative, caring. She takes everything to the next level," the school's principal said.

DENVILLE, NJ — Jennifer Skomial, a teacher at Morris County School of Technology in Denville has been named the 2018-2019 New Jersey State Teacher Of The Year.

Skomial has taught at the Morris County School of Technology for the past ten years. For the past five, she has worked in the Academy for Education and Learning, a program designed for students looking to pursue education. She was a part of the program herself when she was a student at the school.

As part of that program, Skomial serves as the lead teacher and oversees students teaching in the on-site preschool.

"She is devoted, collaborative, caring. She takes everything to the next level," principal Lynne Jackson said.

"She has been absolutely integral in terms of moving that program forward," assistant principal Mark Menadier said. "She provided a vision and she's been essential in creating strong relationships with surrounding schools, and in turn creating a lot of great opportunities for our students."

Skomial will receive a six month paid sabbatical; during that time she will act as liaison between teachers and the state Department of Education. Sponsored by the New Jersey Education Association and Education Testing Services, Skomial will also receive a new car, an allowance for clothes, and a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet the President.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English-Secondary Education from Montclair State University and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from New Jersey City University.
