Mother, Son Pulled From Morris County Lake Identified

The two bodies pulled from the water in Grace Lord Park were discovered with an unattended 6-year-old.

BOONTON, NJ — Morris County authorities have released the name of the mother who was pulled from the pond in Grace Lord Park Tuesday night. Warda Syed, 35, was found in the water with her 11-year-old son Uzair Ahmed, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's office.

Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the Upper Pond section of Grace Lord Park in Boonton on Tuesday night after receiving a report of an unattended child.

While searching the area, police found a 6-year-old unharmed but also discovered the bodies of a 35-year-old woman and an approximately 11-year-old child in the water. Speaking at a press conference, officials confirmed the bodies were discovered shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Police said that both boys were Syed’s children and that all three are Boonton residents.

Authorities noted this is a joint investigation being conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Boonton Police Department Detective Bureau and Boonton Fire Department Swiftwater Rescue Team.

Authorities said more information will be released "when appropriate."
