BOONTON, NJ — A North Jersey man is accused of trying to lure a 12-year-old girl to a Morris County Walmart to have sex with her, charging documents show.

An affidavit of probable cause reveals that a Boonton detective met Brian Stewart at a Walmart on March 27 – where the Clifton resident planned to meet whom he believed to be a young girl for sexual intercourse, officials said.

Stewart, 41, faces four charges of second-degree attempted aggravated sexual assault, two charges of second-degree luring, one charge of second-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child, and two charges of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

According to court documents, Stewart engaged in explicit communications with a 17-year-old boy on KIK Messenger, beginning on March 18. Officials said Stewart believed the male teen was actually a 12-year-old girl named “Riley.”

Stewart sent explicit messages to “Riley” where he mentioned her young age multiple times and used the term “jailbait” when describing her genitals, the affidavit charges. He is also accused of sending “Riley” multiple videos and photos of him masturbating, asking her to send him the same, and ultimately telling her he wanted to meet up for penetrative sex.

Officials said Stewart was using the username "Brian Being Brian" on the app.

Stewart allegedly planned to meet up with “Riley” on March 22 and told her he had purchased condoms for the meeting. This meeting did not occur, officials said.

By March 26, Boonton Police had gotten approval to intercede, and took over the teen boy’s KIK account to continue posing as the 12-year-old “Riley,” the affidavit states.

Stewart went to the Boonton Walmart on March 27 with the intent of having sexual intercourse with the child, officials said, and a detective met him there. The detective confirmed Stewart’s identity and placed him under arrest.

Police noticed a box of condoms on the floor of Stewart’s car, and he reportedly admitted that the condoms were to be used during his meeting with the fictional 12-year-old.

Stewart has been detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings, authorities said.

Officials encouraged anyone who might have more information on this case to call the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit at (973) 285-6200.
