We're 'Disgusted' By Beyonce's 'Anti-Police' Super Bowl Performance: N.J. Troopers

Fraternal Order of state troopers calls on NFL to separate itself from 'shocking' halftime show.

TRENTON, N.J. – The New Jersey State Troopers’ Fraternal Association of New Jersey is not happy about the Super Bowl halftime performance. In fact, they’re “shocked” and “disgusted” by the performance of Beyonce.

In a letter by written by State Troopers Fraternal Association of NJ President Christopher Burgos to National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell, the organization said Beyonce’s performance was a “blatant anti-police message” and assailed the NFL for allowing it to happen.

Burgos, a 30-year veteran of the New Jersey State Troopers, pointed to the performance praising the Black Panther movement and how it struck a chord in New Jersey when Joanne Chesimard, a member of the Black Panthers, killed on-duty Trooper Werner Foerster on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1973.

Burgos goes on to say the organization is calling on the NFL to separate itself from the message presented during the halftime show, and by allowing it to happen, “willfully dishonored the hundreds of thousands of men and women who took an oath to serve and protect, and sacrifice their lives every day so that fans, the rich, powerful, and NFLPA members can entertain tens of thousands of fans at stadiums in a peaceful and safe environment.”

The halftime show was lead by pop-rock band Coldplay. A few minutes into the performance, Beyonce and dozens of backup dancers came out onto the field and sang the song “Formation” while dressed in militant, Black Panther-replica outfits. An anti-Beyonce protest is being organized for Feb. 16 outside the NFL Headquarters in New York City.
