E-Bike Riding Banned On Parsippany School Grounds

The school district is working with local police to enforce the new regulations.

PARSIPPANY, NJ โ€” As e-bike popularity increases across the state, and with e-bike-related accidents on the rise, the Parsippany School District has banned the use of the electric vehicles on school grounds.

Effective immediately, no student is allowed to ride their e-bikes on school property. Students who ride their e-bikes to school must get off the bike and walk beside it once theyโ€™re on school grounds.

โ€œThis guideline is in place to prevent injuries, reduce congestion during busy arrival and dismissal periods, and support a safer environment for everyone,โ€ a Parsippany School District letter read. โ€œStudents who do not follow this expectation may face consequences that include warnings, parent notifications, loss of bike privileges, or police referral, depending on the severity of the situation.โ€

District officials are also asking parents to help reinforce e-bike safety at home. Representatives said that โ€œclear and consistent communication between home and school is the best way to help students make safe choices.โ€

  • Make sure your child wears a properly fitted helmet
  • Talk with them about responsible riding and following traffic laws
  • Check that their e-bike has functioning brakes, lights, and reflectors
  • Remind them to ride respectfully, stay alert, and yield to pedestrians
  • Know where and how they are riding.

School officials said that the district is working with the Parsippany Police Department to enforce these regulations in an effort to โ€œensure that expectations are consistent across the community.โ€
