Rep. Sherrill Named To Armed Services Committee
Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11), a Navy veteran, pledged to advocate for Picatinny Arsenal.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Freshman Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill was named to the House Armed Services Committee for her first term.
Sherrill, a Democrat and Navy veteran who represents New Jersey's 11th district, said she would use the assignment to advocate for Picatinny Arsenal, which is located in Jefferson and Rockaway Townships in Morris County.
"As a former officer in the U.S. Navy, I understand the importance of a strong national defense and our enduring obligations to all the women and men who serve in uniform to secure our freedom. I am honored to join the committee and further their mission," Sherrill said. "I intend to be an advocate for Picatinny Arsenal which plays a vital role in both our national defense and our local economy, and to address emerging national security threats such as climate change and cybersecurity."

Picatinny Arsenal is a major research and development center for the military, focusing on weapons and armor systems. It houses the Defense Department’s Joint Center of Excellence for Armaments and Munitions.
It's also a major employer in the district. Almost 6,000 soldiers, federal employees, and contractors either live in base or around it, Sherrill's office said, and the base contributes $1.3 billion to the local economy.
