Sherrill Postpones First Town Hall Amid Government Shutdown
Originally scheduled during a recess, Rep. Mikie Sherrill has posted her first town hall after Congress was called back to Washington.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — As the government shutdown continues into its 27th day, Rep. Mikie Sherrill has postponed her first town hall meeting.
Originally scheduled for Jan. 22 in Hanover, the town hall will now be held on Sunday, Jan. 27 in Parsippany. That date is subject to change if the government is not reopened by then.
Congress was originally scheduled to be on recess next week, but with no end in sight for the shut down, lawmakers are expected to remain in Washington to work. Sherrill has formally requested not to receive a salary until the shut down is over.

Holding regular town halls and making herself accessible to constituents were key campaign promises for Sherrill, who criticized retiring Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen for his lack of transparency towards the end of his decades long career. This announcement upholds Sherrill's early-December promise to hold a town hall in mid-January.
"The town hall is a wonderful opportunity to share my legislative priorities, update everyone on what I've seen and heard in Washington, and then take the community's concerns back with me to Congress," Sherrill said when she announced the town hall.

The town hall will now be held at the Parsippany PAL, 33 Baldwin Road in Parsippany, on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
