Teen Injured, Father Arrested After Street Fight In Parsippany: Police

Officers found a gun magazine with eight bullets outside a home following a fight Saturday night, which continued in a 7-Eleven parking lot.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — The arrival of Parsippany Police officers scattered a street fight on Saturday night, and officials said they found a teen boy with a head injury after someone reportedly assaulted him.

Shortly thereafter, officers say they witnessed a township resident, whose child was involved in the incident, punch another man in the face outside a nearby 7-Eleven.

Police responded to the report of "large physical disturbance" outside a home on Roosevelt Avenue just before 11 p.m. Saturday, the PPD said. When officers arrived to the scene, a number of people "scattered and began running through the yards of surrounding residences."

One officer located a handgun magazine loaded with eight bullets outside a nearby residence and took it into evidence, but officials said Tuesday they are unsure if anyone fired the weapon.

A 17-year-old had sustained a head injury, and witnesses told police that he had been assaulted by one of the people who had fled the scene. First responders transported him to the Morristown Medical Center for treatment; officials said his injuries were not life-threatening.

While police investigated the scene on Roosevelt Avenue, several other officers noticed a group of people gathering outside the 7-Eleven at 31 North Beverwyck Road, and stopped several of the people to ask if they were involved in the fight.

During this discussion, police said, a pickup truck came into the parking lot, and the driver got out and hit one of the other men in the face. He was immediately arrested on a simple assault charge.

Officials said the driver, a 44-year-old Parsippany man, is the father "of one of the involved juveniles."

Anyone with more information on this incident is asked to call the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Branch at 973-263-4300.
