Woman Given $26 Ticket Lied About Morris Cop Pointing Gun At Her: Police

Internal affairs investigation launched, which revealed dashcam footage proving officer was in the right, police report.

An Irvington woman given a break by a Morris County police officer after running a stop sign didn’t show her gratitude, and instead launched an internal affairs investigation claiming the cop pointed his gun at her.

On Oct. 28, Hyacinth Peccoo, 50, of Irvington, went into Pequannock Township Police headquarters to make a complaint about an officer that had stopped her for a motor vehicle violation, Capt. Christopher DePuyt said.

Peccoo met with Det. Lt. Michael Fairweather and told the officer she was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign, which she said was not true, DePuyt said. She then told Fairweather the officer who stopped her yelled at her and pulled out his firearm and pointed it at her, DePuyt said.

Peccoo then completed a written statement of the account and her interview was audio and video recorded, DePuyt said.

But so was the traffic stop.

Fairweather and Peccoo then went to the evidence, a six-minute long dashcam video of the stop and subsequent conversation between the officer and Peccoo.

The video shows Peccoo not stopping at a stop sign. It then shows the officer approaching her vehicle after stopping at a nearby residence and acting cordial toward the driver.

Then, rather than giving Peccoo a ticket for blowing through the stop sign, he gives the driver a break and hands over a no-point, $26 ticket for having an improper address on her driver’s license.

As a result of the video evidence, Peccoo was charged with making a false report to law enforcement and given a court appearance.
