Point Borough public school students went back to school this morning, but the school district phone system is not back at work.
As students settled into their classrooms brightly decorated by teachers who have been hard at work getting ready for the new school year, district administrators were learning that the main district phone system was inoperative.
By 10 a.m., the Honeywell Instant Alert system was dialing phone numbers for district parents, letting them know the main number they usually call, (732) 701-1900 is not working due to "a wiring problem."

Patch caught up with a few students here and there who were waiting for buses for Ocean Road and Nellie F. Bennett elementary schools.
If you have any photos of your children getting ready for school, out in front of your house, waiting at bus stops, getting into cars, jumping on skateboards or bicycles to head towards school, please feel free to load them into this story.
Editor's note from Denise Di Stephan: I apologize I was not able to photograph all children whose parents responded to my Facebook request. A lot of the children were at bus stops and boarding at the same time. I hope you can load photos into this file. If anyone has difficulty doing that, please contact me at denise.distephan@patch.com. Thank you and I hope the first day of school is a great start to the new year!
