I wanted to urge my fellow Ocean County citizens to make sure they get out and vote this year. This wild presidential election may make some stay home or just “vote the line” and accept what we have accepted for too long in Ocean County. However, we have some critical local races.

Regardless of your party, one of the most important local contests of this election is for Ocean County Freeholder.

The taxpayers of our county have been burdened for many years with a county government that is known for wasteful spending. We have watched for 25 years as jobs have been created for family members and political friends of the current freeholders. The freeholder position is considered a part-time position.

However, because of their salary, their pension double dipping, and benefits, they make $100,000 a year or more, all at the expense of the taxpayer. It is time that this is corrected.

Ed Wolff and Michael Cooke want to put an end to this kind of abuse of the public trust. They want to eliminate political patronage and governing for personal gain. They want to make sure that the taxes we pay are used to make the quality of life better for all the people of Ocean County, not just a select few.
