Point Beach Council Extends Workday For High School Renovation Contractor
The contractor doing the work can now work until 8 p.m. instead of 6 p.m. until December.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH — Borough C0uncil members recently gave the contractor doing the renovation work at Point Pleasant Beach High School permission to work until 8 p.m. into December, according to the Ocean Star.
“I think what they are looking to do is find an eight-hour workday for their employees,” said Superintendent William Smith.“We don’t want to disrupt our academic day for the kids, so we don’t want [the contractor] starting work before 3 p.m. and understandably residents don’t want people working until all hours of the night.”
The work is being done by GDA Mechanical Inc. Residents here approved a $10 million referendum for the high school and the G. Harold Antrim Elementary School last year to revamp the gyms, heating and air conditioning systems, roof repairs and repairing the high school's brick facade.

The contractor had asked for a noise curfew until 11 p.m., which council members nixed immediately.
“Do we really want them to be working in the dark with lights and everything bothering the neighbors?” Mayor Stephen Reid said at the Oct. 18 council meeting. "I don't think so."

“While we endorse the support of a slight extension on the 6 p.m. curfew that exists now, 11 p.m. is an awful lot to ask from our neighbors,” Smith said.
