UPDATED STORY: Point Boro Dog Found by Owner on River Road Property on Monday

The Point Borough owner of a dog that had been missing for nearly three days said on Tuesday morning that she found the dog on the grounds of a riverfront home on River Road on Monday afternoon, based on a tip from a resident in that neighborhood.

On Tuesday morning, Melanie Hill said a woman who lives on Maxson Avenue had reported to on Monday that she had seen the dog in her neighborhood.

That led police and Hill to go to that neighborhood, search for the dog and ultimately Hill found him on the grounds of a large, riverfront home that fronts on River Road.

Hill said she asked police to find out the name and phone number of the woman who called them so she can thank her, since she has not met her yet. (More details to follow in a new story to be posted on Patch later).

Xhaiden, a 5-year-old brown spaniel, is at a veterinarian appointment this morning, after spending a restful night back home on Mattapan Avenue with Melanie and Doug Hill and their second dog, Tanner, who is Xhaiden's father, Melanie Hill said.

Melanie Hill said she will have microchips installed in both of her dogs. Microchips contain the owner's contact information and can be read with scanners.

When animals are found, animal shelters, animal control officers and most veterinarians have scanners to read the microchip information so owners can be contacted right away.

Hill said she is tremendously grateful to the numerous volunteers, from Point Borough, Brick, Toms River and other towns, who were out searching for Xhaiden between Saturday morning and Monday afternoon.

That group included Ken McKeel, a Howell resident who had been searching for the dog all day Monday with other volunteers from Brick and Bradley Beach.

McKeel said on Monday afternoon, right after Xhaiden was found, that the owners "are hysterically happy."

McKeel, who saw the dog after he was found, said Xhaiden appeared to be fine, just tired and dirty. Xhaiden appeared healthy and did not seem to have any visible cuts or bruises.

"He seemed fine, he had a look on his face like 'Hey, what's the big deal about? I just went away for a little while,' " McKeel said, laughing.
