Driver who allegedly ran over woman outside apartments cited for reckless driving

A new resident in Point Borough is charged with reckless driving for allegedly running over and seriously injuring a woman who was sunbathing on a lawn at a local apartment complex, police said on Monday.
Lori Rossi, 44, is accused of running over a 49-year-old woman who was sunbathing on a blanket on the grass in front of the apartment complex at 1128 Borden Ave., Point Borough, at about 2 p.m. Sunday, said Captain Richard Larsen.
Police are withholding the name of the victim, who suffered head injuries and trauma to her chest and ribs and was rushed by the borough First Aid Squad to Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, Larsen said.

Rossi was moving into an apartment in the complex. To get her belongings in her Chevrolet Suburban closer to the apartment, she drove from the complex parking lot onto the lawn of the complex, and allegedly drove onto another tenant who was sunbathing there, Larsen said.
"She wanted to get closer to her apartment, she said she didn't see the woman sunbathing," he said.

Rossi was in the process of moving from Point Beach to the apartment complex.
Police were called to the scene at 2:03 p.m. Corporal Steven Savoie was the lead investigator, with Lt. Rob Lokerson and Officers Chris Leonhardt and Loren MacIver assisting at the scene.
The Fatal Accident Support Team from the Ocean County Prosecutor's office also assisted with the investigation, Lokerson said. He explained that even though the accident did not cause a death, the county team got involved because there were serious injuries.
