Point Pleasant Beach Police Began 22nd Year Of 'Operation Chill'

The program began back in 1995 and has continued ever since.

Do a good deed, get a treat.

That's the message Point Pleasant police have for kids who live in the borough.

The police department is beginning its 22nd year of "Operation Chill," a community relations program designed to reduce crime and enhance relations between 7-11 stores, police and youngsters, according to the department's Facebook page.

"Operation Chill" will allow police to "ticket" kids they spot doing good deeds or showing positive behavior. The ticket is really a coupon good for small beverages at the store.

Popular uses include: rewarding kids for wearing bicycle helmets, doing good deeds, participating is school safety programs, community activities and organizations, picking up trash, and deterring crime.

It also gives officers to use the tickets as icebreakers to interact with children in the neighborhood.
