Point Pleasant Boro Girls Soccer Team Stopped After COVID Tests
Officials say several members of the team have tested positive for the coronavirus.
POINT PLEASANT BORO – Members of the Point Pleasant Boro High School girls soccer team have tested positive for COVID-19, causing the district to pause the team's season, officials said.
The head soccer coach, the district and school administrators were immediately notified by parents of the student athletes, Superintendent Vincent Smith said.
Smith said the district followed all the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to begin "the necessary steps to protect the health and safety of the Point Pleasant school community."

Smith said he wanted to thank parents for their cooperation and "for working with the district to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
"Now, more than ever, I ask you as parents to re-emphasize to your children the need to practice social distancing and to avoid social gatherings whenever possible," Smith said.

Smith said he realizes this may seem like "an impossible task but one that must be encouraged in order to keep our extra-curricular programs open and, most importantly, our schools as the district moves forward with the recently announced phase-in plan."
Smith asked that if anybody has been exposed to the coronavirus, or has tested positive for it, to please not send your children to school.
Parents should complete the COVID-19 questionnaire on the parent portal for each of your children.
