Point Pleasant Officer Promoted To Sergeant
Sgt. Gene Capoano is a Point Pleasant Borough native who has spent most of his career with the borough police department.

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Gene Capoano, a Point Pleasant Borough native who has worked for the police department since 2001, was promoted to sergeant at Monday's Borough Council meeting.
Capoano was born and raised in Point Pleasant and was a 1992 graduate of Point Pleasant High School, Mayor Robert Sabosik said, reading Capoano's biography before the ceremony.
He earned an associate's degree in criminal justice from Ocean County College and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

Capoano, who was joined by his wife and sons while he took the oath as sergeant, began his career in law enforcement at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center. While he was there, a position opened at the Federal Correctional Institution at Fort Dix. He worked at Fort Dix for the next year and a half before being hired in Point Pleasant in 2001.
He completed the 77th class of the Ocean County Police Academy and was after completing his field training was assigned to the 3-11 shift, which he worked for 17 years. While working that shift he served as a patrol officer, a field training officer and he is a certified child safety seat technician.

In 2017 Capoano moved to the 7-3 shift, and was an essential part of launching the department's Community Policing Unit, where he is assigned.
Capoano, who has received two lifesaving awards and numerous commendations, served two terms on the executive board for PBA Local 158, holding the position of secretary.
