Council To Extend Temporary Dog Park Usage By A Year In Princeton

The Municipality is also exploring locations to create a permanent dog park.

PRINCETON, NJ — On Monday, Princeton Council introduced a resolution to continue using Community Park South as a temporary dog park for one year.

The resolution allows pets to use of a portion of the park until May 5, 2024.

The grand opening and ribbon-cutting of the temporary dog park at Community Park South was held on Feb. 5. And it first started as a 90-day pilot program.

The Municipality is currently exploring locations to create a permanent dog park.

“At this time Council seeks to continue operating the temporary dog park while it continues to explore locations for a permanent dog park and also while Council considers its options for possibly improving this and other portions of Community Park South,” the resolution reads.

The park was established as part of a collaboration between the Princeton Town Council, Princeton Animal Control and the Princeton Dog Park Alliance, a group of local dog owners with the goal of creating more open spaces for dogs in the area.

The dog park is open from dawn to dusk. Dogs must be licensed and up to date on rabies vaccinations with licenses displayed on collars or harnesses. Aggressive dogs, chew toys, female dogs in heat and puppies younger than four months are prohibited.
