Niki Spruill is Making Music as the Leader of Capital Harmony Works
Niki Spruill, the newly appointed Executive Director of Capital Harmony Works has found her footing and is helping her students thrive!
Mercer County, NJ—Capital Harmony Works, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creative youth development through music education, announced the appointment of Niki Spruill as its new Executive Director in December and she has been making music happen ever since! Spruill, who served as the organization’s Director of Development for the past two years, officially assumed her new role on December 9, 2024.
As Director of Development, Spruill played a pivotal role in strengthening corporate and community partnerships while expanding individual support for the organization’s programs. Her leadership was instrumental in the success of last spring’s One Voice Gala, which raised significant funds to further Capital Harmony Works’ mission.

Founded in 2023 through the merger of four longstanding youth music education programs—Trenton Children's Chorus, Trenton Music Makers, Music for the Very Young, and Learning Academy—Capital Harmony Works provides tuition-free, high-quality ensemble music education for children and youth in Trenton and surrounding communities. The organization fosters artistic expression, academic success, and personal growth through early-childhood music instruction and structured after-school programs. Capital Harmony Works alumni have gone on to earn scholarships for college and prestigious summer programs, including the renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts.
As Executive Director, Spruill oversees the organization’s operations, including fundraising, program development, and community outreach, ensuring that Capital Harmony Works continues to provide transformative opportunities for young musicians.

“I was honored to step into this role and I am having the time of my life! Capital Harmony Works has always worked to inspire and uplift our community through music,” said Spruill. “I look forward to collaborating with our talented team, board, and partners to expand our impact and reach even more young people, and I hope to see the whole community at our annual gala event on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 5:30 pm at The Trenton Country Club. This year the gala will feature a ceremony honoring the remarkable individuals whose contributions have helped shape the organization’s history to include: Tanice Fitzpatrick, Gloria Bethea and Ronnie Ragen, all receiving awards at the event.
A native of Trenton, Spruill discovered her passion for performance early on through local arts programs. She is a proud graduate of Granville Academy and remains deeply engaged in the Trenton community, serving on the Board of Every Child Valued and acting as a liaison for the Souls to the Polls voter registration movement. She is also an active member of the Community Foundation of New Jersey, supporting grant distribution to vital organizations across Mercer County.
Spruill holds a Master’s in Stage and Production Management from the California Institute for the Arts and has built a distinguished career in the performing arts. She has worked with esteemed theaters such as the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, the Evidence Room in Los Angeles, and The Classical Theatre of Harlem in New York. Her achievements include receiving the New York Theatre Workshop’s Time Warner Fellowship for Artists of Color and stage-managing acclaimed productions such as Beckett Shorts starring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Suzan-Lori Parks’ In the Blood.
Returning to New Jersey in recent years, Spruill has dedicated her career to uplifting the performing arts community that shaped her. She remains committed to mentoring the next generation of artists and leaders, guided by the principle that “to whom much is given, much is required.”
Under Spruill’s leadership, Capital Harmony Works is poised for continued growth, furthering its mission of empowering youth through music and the arts.
