Obituary: Terry D. Snyder, 85, Of Princeton

Snyder who died Sept. 12, was a consulting pilot on the Apollo Project, providing mission support for the Lunar Module.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton resident Terry D. Snyder died on Sept. 12, daughter Lisa Snyder said. He was 85, and a resident of Princeton for over 15 years.

Snyder who retired from Princeton University, was a consulting pilot on the Apollo Project, providing mission support for the Lunar Module.

He was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on July 14, 1936. He graduated from Aspinwall High School in 1954 and from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1958, with a degree in Military Engineering.

He was then commissioned in the Air Force and assigned to the Strategic Air Command as a B-47 bomber pilot with the 529th Bomb Squad, SAC in Plattsburgh, NY, and with the RAF Brize Norton in England. While stationed in New York, Snyder met and married Carol Ann Kunst.

After completing his military service, Terry pursued a career in engineering. He worked as a Simulation System Engineer at Link. He was also a consulting pilot on the Apollo Project, providing mission support for the Lunar Module. Snyder became a Senior Simulation Engineer at (Northrop) Grumman. Later he joined Princeton University’s Plasma Physics Laboratory as a Senior Systems Analyst and Computer Operations Director, involved with the TFTR project. He retired in 1995.

Snyder enjoyed reading, woodworking, skiing, motorsport, flying, captaining his boat the “Quintessence,” and walking his Great Pyrenees named Charlie.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol K. Snyder, son Terry C. Snyder and daughters, Shannon Snyder (Klaus Ladstaetter) and Lisa Snyder (Lo Faber); his grandchildren, sister Judy (George) Pekich, nephew, niece, and cousins.

Snyder will be interred at West Point Cemetery, and a private memorial will be held at a later date.
