Princeton U Faculty Wins 2024 Tony For Best Lighting Design

Jane Cox received her first Tony award on Sunday night.

PRINCETON, NJ — A Princeton University faculty member won the prestigious Tony Award Sunday night for best lighting design.

Jane Cox, Director of Princeton’s Program in Theatre and Music Theatre, won her first Tony at the 77th annual ceremony.

She won for her work on the Boardway show “Appropriate” starring Sarah Paulson. The show is based on the play written by playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, who also serves as a member of the arts advisory council at the Princeton University Lewis Center for the Arts.

A resident of Princeton, Cox has been in theater for 30 years and designed lights for theater, opera, dance and music.

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Cox has taught at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Vassar College, Sarah Lawrence College, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and conducts workshops at the Kennedy Center and universities all over the country.
