Tony-Nominated Choreographer Opens Princeton's McCarter Fall Season With Interactive Performance
Five-time Tony nominee brings groundbreaking "I AM" performance featuring African diasporic dance, live music, and audience participation.

PRINCETON, NJ – Fall is officially here, and McCarter Theatre Center kicks off the season on Friday, Sept. 26, with a performance by Camille A. Brown & Dancers in "I AM."
The five-time Tony Award-nominated choreographer has revolutionized dance, opera, and Broadway by bringing African American culture to center stage with extraordinary artistry and infectious joy.
Brown's acclaimed work spans major productions, including Gypsy starring Audra McDonald, Alicia Keys' Hell's Kitchen, Terence Blanchard's Fire Shut Up in My Bones, and PBS' Giant Steps.

Drawing inspiration from HBO's Lovecraft Country and the rhythmic energy of Drumline, "I AM" creates an immersive experience that transcends traditional performance boundaries.
Audiences are encouraged to participate through clapping, snapping, and singing along, embracing the African tradition of call and response in a celebration that is both deeply personal and powerfully communal.

Brown to the legendary voices of Heather Headley and Aida Cuevas, to virtuosic innovators Jacob Collier and Chris Thile, and the timeless artistry of Kyung Wha Chung, McCarter’s stages are alive this fall with extraordinary experiences you won’t find anywhere else.”
The diverse fall lineup of programming features performances across music, dance, spoken word, theater, and family, including:
- Pink Martini All-Stars featuring NPR's Ari Shapiro, Edna Vazquez, and Jimmie Herrod with special guest Storm Large (Oct. 5)
- Disney's Moana live-to-film concert (Oct. 9)
- Step Afrika! (Oct. 25)
- Philip Glass Ensemble (Nov. 22)
Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations
McCarter honors Hispanic Heritage Month with three special performances celebrating Latin music's rich traditions and global influence:
- The Bobby Sanabria Multiverse Big Band: West Side Story Reimagined (October 4)
- Celia Cruz – A Tribute to the Queen! featuring Xiomara Laugart and Axel Tosca & band (October 10)
- Aida Cuevas: 50 Years of Singing Mexico (October 17)
