RAMSEY, NJ — A delivery truck driver is in critical condition and had to be airlifted to the hospital after a pile of bricks was pushed on top of him at a borough home Tuesday morning, police said.

The 67-year-old Bergenfield man was taken via medivac helicopter to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment, said Chief Bryan Gurney.

The man's identity was withheld pending notification of his family, the chief said.

A landscaping company was working at the home. A landscaper was using a "small piece of construction equipment" to unload the pavers when he pushed them onto the man, who was the truck's driver, Gurney said.

Police got a report at 11:24 a.m. of a man being crushed by a pile of bricks at the home. Officers lifted a pallet of slate-style pavers off of the victim, Gurney said.

Members of the Ramsey Ambulance Corps and Valley Hospital paramedics moved the man to a landing zone at Adorno Fathers on Darlington Avenue where a medivac helicopter landed and took him to the hospital, the chief said.

No charges have been filed.

Representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were at the scene, which was processed by the Bergen County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
