Ridgefield Man Killed While Crossing Rt. 17 in Ramsey

Charges have not been filed against the two men driving cars that ran him over, police say.

A 59-year-old Ridgefield man was struck by two cars and killed when trying to cross Route 17 southbound in Ramsey Thursday night, borough Police Chief Bryan Gurney confirmed Friday morning.

According to Gurney, Craig Royer – who was staying at the Maple Shade Motel on Route 17 South – attempted to cross the highway on foot shortly before 9:25 p.m.

While crossing near Ramsey Nissan and the IHOP, Royer was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet pick-up driven by an Emerson resident, Gurney said. A 2004 Toyota being driven by an Oradell resident “was also involved in the accident,” Gurney said.
