RED BANK, NJ — What began over 20 years ago as a small gathering in a parking lot has blossomed into one of Lunch Break’s most heartwarming and essential events – their Annual Community Picnic.

Drawing over 1,000 attendees in 2025, the celebration has become “a beacon of joy, unity and support for neighbors in need,” officials said, powered by the generosity of the local community.

Held on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Count Basie Fields, this year’s picnic honored the dedication of the Red Bank Fire and Police Departments as a testament to their continued commitment to serving the local community.

At 8 a.m., an hour before the picnic even began, 30 families were lined up for the event, officials said, reflecting just how deeply anticipated this annual tradition has become.

“The Red Bank Police Department is honored to be recognized at the annual Lunch Break Community Picnic,” Red Bank Police Chief Michael Frazee said. “This event is a beautiful reminder of the strong bonds that unite our town.”

“Being part of the Red Bank community means more than just serving, it means standing together, supporting one another, and building trust every day,” Frazee continued. “We are grateful to Lunch Break and to all who make this celebration possible.”

Each year, the annual Community Picnic serves as a cornerstone event for Lunch Break, providing free meals, school supplies, a softball tournament and a day of family fun.

“The exponential growth of the event is a testament to both the increasing need and the unwavering compassion of the community,” Lunch Break officials said. “Congratulations to the 2025 Tournament Champions, Morgan Stanley! Lunch Break’s team proudly reached the finals for the second year in a row, fueling community spirit and excitement.”

In addition to school bags and supplies donated for the event, over 30 non-profits also provided screenings, resources and vital information. Lunch Break extended its thanks to all participating organizations for contributing to the health and well-being of their neighbors.

“I’ve had the privilege of watching this event grow from 200 participants to over 1,000,” said Millie Jeter, Lunch Break’s Director of Administration. “It’s truly a blessing to witness the joy and excitement in the faces of everyone, whether they’re enjoying snow cones, receiving backpacks, or simply jumping around with carefree smiles.”

“Being part of an organization that can provide this sense of tranquility and togetherness for our community is something I’m incredibly grateful for,” Jeter continued.
