Community Garden Rules To Be Updated In Holmdel
Holmdel Township Committee to introduce an ordinance regarding a community garden near Senior/Community Center.
HOLMDEL, NJ — Updates to community garden usage are laid out in an ordinance to be introduced at the Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
The garden is between the Senior/Community Center and Post Office at or near 6 Crawfords Corner Road.
The ordinances specifies some of the ground rules:

- The Community Garden season is to be from March 1 to Nov. 30, with access permitted from dawn to dusk.
- Each season, plot rentals will be assigned to applicants by the director of the Recreation Department.
- Assignments initially will be limited to township residents, with one plot per family household.
- If plots are still available after April 1 in a given year, rentals may be extended to non-township residents.
- The fee for each plot will be $25.
- A plot in the Community Garden shall be a maximum size of 4 feet by 8½ feet.
All community garden users and their guests also must agree to hold harmless the township for liability, loss or other claim, the ordinance says.
And the township can't guarantee that your soil is suitable for a particular crop.

The ordinance will be considered for adoption and have a public hearing on March 12.
The public portion of the meeting on Tuesday begins at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. There is a 6:30 p.m. executive session.
