Red Bank Borough put out an announcement advising drivers to avoid the area of NJ Transit crossings there due to crossing gates that were lowered for an extended period of time, causing traffic jams starting at about 5 p.m.
The train that left New York at 3:44 p.m. had to reverse direction once it discharged passengers in Red Bank to clear the crossings, which took about 40 minutes. But passengers were unable to access cars immediately in the parking lots and traffic was tied up for blocks in Red Bank and in the outskirts leading out of the borough. Police were on hand to help direct traffic.
