KKK Fliers Attached To Candy Left On Red Bank Streets: Reports

Local leaders decried the fliers, saying there was no room in Red Bank for the racist messages.

RED BANK, NJ — Fliers promoting the KKK attached to candy were dropped on streets in Red Bank last week, according t0 media reports.

Bags filled with the fliers have been found on Leighton Ave and Hudson Ave Police Chief Darren McConnell told the APP. The fliers were all different, but generally promoted the KKK and directed people to websites promoting the group or to join the group.

Borough mayor Pasquale Menna told nj.com the fliers were "completely distressing," and that the racist rhetoric "doesn't have a seed of support" in Red Bank.

Because there are no threats, the only crime would be littering, Menna told the paper.

Monmouth County assembly members Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey issued a joint statement against the flyers, saying, "This racist rhetoric has no place in our community. We cannot stand idly by and allow for this backward, bigoted behavior to be tolerated. We must come together and stand up to hate."

This is not the first time in recent years pro-KKK fliers have turned up in Red Bank. In 2016, a number of homes in the borough and nearby Fair Haven had racist flyers scattered on their lawns.

More recently, another hate group has been trying to spread its message in New Jersey. Identity Evorpa, a white nationalist organization, recently distributed flyers and stickers in Somerset and Morris Counties, something local leaders decried.
