Driver Dies After Car Leaves Road, Hits Trees In Monmouth County: Police

The fatal crash occurred Sunday night on Shafto Road just north of West Park Ave., police said.

TINTON FALLS, NJ — One person has died following a fatal motor vehicle crash on Sunday night, the Tinton Falls Police Department said Monday.

Around 11 p.m. on Sunday, police said officers were dispatched to Shafto Road just north of West Park Avenue for a single-car motor vehicle crash.

Once officers arrived, police said they found a white 2014 Volkswagen Jetta that had left the right side of the road and struck several trees.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Robert Mendez, 25, of Oceanport, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
