Man Fatally Struck By Train In Red Bank Identified

The man was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train on Oct. 8 at the Bridge Avenue-Monmouth Street Crossing.

RED BANK, NJ — The man fatally struck by an NJ Transit train in Red Bank on Oct. 8 has been identified, NJ Transit Spokesman John Chartier said.

Joseph Rego Jr., 52, was identified as the pedestrian killed in the incident. He had no known address, Chartier said.

Rego was struck and killed by a North Jersey Coast Line train at the Bridge Avenue-Monmouth Street train crossing, Red Bank Police Chief Michael Frazee said. It was the same place where a man was fatally struck by an NJ Transit train in September.

According to Chartier, Rego was hit around 2 p.m. and North Jersey Coast Line rail service was temporarily suspended between Red Bank and Long Branch as a result of the incident.

There were no reported injuries to the 25 customers or crew on board, Chartier said.

According to Frazee, Rego was wearing a hospital ID bracelet from Jersey Shore University Medical Center when his body was found. At the time of Frazee’s statement, Rego’s identity had not been released.

NJ Transit Police led the investigation into the incident.
