Red Bank Board of Ed. Recognizes its Music Teachers

At its recent meeting, the board handed out plaques to the district's three music teachers.

Red Bank School District Superintendent Laura Morana always takes a moment to tout the district’s music education program. In a quest to provide students with a complete education, she said, music is nothing short of integral.

At its meeting Tuesday night, the Red Bank Board of Education made their appreciation of the district’s music program, and its teachers, official, by presenting its public school music teachers with plaques and some recognition.

Red Bank Middle School music teacher Holcombe Hurd, Primary School music teacher Carol Boehm, and the district’s string instrument teacher Kim Stiles were each recognized during the evening meeting.

Board President Ann Roseman said the music program not only helps broaden the education experience for district students, but also gets them excited about attending school.

“I think, from a parent’s perspective,” she said. “I think music really puts the joy into education for the children when they go to school.”

Not only does the district have music classes for all of its grades, but its strings students perform annually in an inter-district festival with other students from Shrewsbury, Little Silver, and Red Bank Regional High School.

The event, held in February, has become an annual affair. This year nearly 200 students performed in the string festival.

Middle school PTO President Eileen Maier was on hand at the board meeting to help hand out the honors.

“You’ve,” she said, addressing the teachers. “Helped our students in so many ways with the music program.”
