Red Bank Native Director Kevin Smith Had Massive Heart Attack

The actor, comedian and director tweeted about his experience with the "Widow-Maker"

RED BANK, NJ - Actor and director Kevin Smith was stricken with a massive heart attack on Sunday night in between shows in California.

Early this morning, Smith, 47, posted a tweet about his condition with "the Widow-Maker."

"After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack," Smith said on Twitter at around 3:30 a.m. eastern time. "The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka "the Widow-Maker")."

Smith said on Facebook he felt "kinda nauseous" between shows, began to sweat heavily and was rushed to the hospital.

"If I hadn't canceled the second show to go to the hospital, the Doc said I would have died tonight," he said in the post. "For now, I'm still above ground!

Smith said his father had died of a massive heart attack.

"But the point of this post is to tell you that I faced my greatest fear tonight... and it wasn’t as bad as I’ve always imagined it’d be," he wrote in the post."I don’t want my life to end but if it ends, I can’t complain. It was such a gift."

The New Jersey-born actor and director was on tour for his show "Kevin Smith Live!" when he was stricken in Glendale, California. He has used his New Jersey roots as fodder for his work as a writer, actor and director, according to nj.com.

Smith first rose to fame with his critically acclaimed movie "Clerks" in 1994. It was largely set in a convenience store in the Leonardo section of Middletown.
