3 Bergen County Schools Get Prestigious Blue Ribbon Award

After the federal government canceled the Blue Ribbon Schools recognition program, the state of NJ announced 11 winners Wednesday.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two public and one non-public school in Bergen County have received a Blue Ribbon School award, the state Department of Education announced on Wednesday.

The state recognized 11 schools in eight counties in total.

The federal Department of Education had ended the annual recognition program on Aug. 29, leaving the states to decide whether to continue it, the state Department of Education said Wednesday.

The 11 schools recognized had already been designated for awards on the federal level before the program ended.

The annual designation recognizes schools that are either high-performing academically or making progress in "closing achievement gaps among diverse student groups," the state said.

In Bergen County, the Roosevelt School in Lodi was recognized, as was Bergen County Technical High School, based in Teterboro.

A private school, Elisabeth Morrow in Englewood, was also recognized.

Education Commissioner Kevin Dehmer said, “New Jersey’s 2025 Blue Ribbon Schools demonstrate what is possible when educators, students, and communities work together to support academic growth and opportunity for all learners."

The recipients were announced at a New Jersey State Board of Education meeting on Wednesday.

“On behalf of my colleagues on the State Board of Education, I congratulate the 11 schools being named 2025 New Jersey Blue Ribbon Schools,” said State Board of Education President Kathy Goldenberg.

All public schools in the state are considered annually. Nonpublic schools are nominated by the Council of American Private Education (CAPE).
