3 Hospitalized And 1 Man Charged In Route 3 Crash In Bergen County

A Newark man was charged with assault by auto after a Route 3 crash in Bergen County sent 3 to the hospital on Sunday.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Newark man has been charged with assault by auto after he crashed into a Honda on Route 3 in Rutherford Sunday morning, causing three passengers to be taken to the hospital, prosecutors said.

Justin LaTorre, 40, was charged with three counts of assault by auto and a count of driving while intoxicated, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office on Sunday.

Prosecutors said that at around 5:12 a.m. on Sunday, the Rutherford Police Department responded to Route 3 West in reference to a motor vehicle
accident.

Investigators found that a 2022 Ford Range driven by LaTorre crashed into a 2018 Honda HRV, injuring four occupants, three of whom were treated at the hospital.

Members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit determined that LaTorre attempted to make a U-turn in the westbound lanes of Route 3, causing a collision.

LaTorre was taken to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack to await a first appearance, prosecutors said.
