Bergen Homicide Victim ID'd, 5 Arrested: Prosecutor

The 5 were arrested after police investigated the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man, officials said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Five people were arrested Monday in connection with a Fairview fatal shooting, police confirmed.

Four of the people arrested and charged were: Carlos Juan Burgos, 19, Lexie Burke, 20, David Daniel Martinez, 18, and Raul Alexander Torres, 19, said Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Their arrests stretched from Monday morning until Monday night, he said.

Burgos lives in Jersey City. The other three men live in North Bergen, said Musella.

Torres, Burgos, Burke, and Torres were each charged with first-degree murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and weapons offenses, Musella said.

The victim was identified as David Duque-Soto, Musella said in a news release.

Authorities investigated and learned that Burgos, Martinez, Burke, and Torres went to Duque-Soto's Fairview apartment on 4th Street with guns to steal drugs and money, Musella said.

Duque-Soto was shot while the robbery occurred. Afterwards, Burgos met with Dylan Rodriguez, 18, of North Bergen, and gave him a gun used in the murder. Rodriguez hid the gun at a home, Musella said.

Rodriguez was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, hindering apprehension, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, the prosecutor said.

"We're just happy that it came to an end quickly through a concerted effort by my officers and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit," said Fairview police Chief Martin Kahn said.

The North Bergen Police Department assisted with the investigation.

The investigation began when Fairview police officers went to a 4th Street apartment at about 8 p.m. Saturday based on information that shooting may have happened there, Musella said.

Officers found Duque-Soto in the apartment, dead of "apparent gunshot wounds," Musella said.

A man who lived across the street from where the shooting occurred said he and his wife were walking their dogs Saturday at about 6:45 p.m. when they heard what sounded like three gunshots, NorthJersey.com reported. He also said he noticed three unfamiliar people on the block while he was out with the dogs, according to the report.

Burgos, Torres, Martinez, Burke, and Rodriguez were remanded to the Hudson County Jail pending detention hearings.
