Glen Rock Resident Falls Victim To 'Mystery Shopper' Scam: Cops

A Glen Rock resident reported a "Mystery Shopper" scam to police.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A Glen Rock resident who was hoping to learn a little extra money nearly got tricked into giving hundreds away, police said.

On Dec. 15, the resident told police that they had signed up for an online opportunity advertised as a “mystery shopper” position.

The resident received a check for $2,500 and was told to deposit it, then buy three $700 postal money orders and two books of stamps.

The person was told to mail all of the items to a different "mystery shopper" while remaining incognito.

The resident became suspicious and contacted police, who are investigating.

The scam was reminiscent of another recent "job scam" in which a resident answered an ad to be an assistant to an artist, and was told to buy art supplies. See more about local "Job Scams" here.
