4 Hospitals In Bergen County Get 'A' Safety Ratings: Report
Four Bergen County hospitals got excellent safety ratings in a report just released.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Five of Bergen County's hospitals earned "A" grades for protecting their patients from preventable harm.
The hospitals are listed in the Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2025 Hospital Safety Grades. The Leapfrog Group is a watchdog founded 25 years ago.
The biannual ranking assigns a “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” to all hospitals in the United States based on their ability to protect patients from medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

Medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections are largely preventable problems that harm one in four hospital inpatients and cause as many as 250,000 deaths each year, according to The Leapfrog Group.

‘Straight A’ Hospitals (At Least Two Years)
- Englewood Hospital & Medical Center (350 Engle Street, Englewood)
- Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center (30 Prospect Ave., Hackensack)
- Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center (1945 Route 33, Neptune)
- Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Center (425 Jack Martin Blvd., Brick)
‘A’ Hospitals
- Holy Name Medical Center (718 Teaneck Road, Teaneck
Also, 21 hospitals in New Jersey earned B grades, 10 received C grades, and one received a D grade. No New Jersey hospital received a failing F grade, according to the report.
The top five states for the largest percentages of A hospitals are Utah, Virginia, New Jersey, Connecticut and North Carolina, respectively. Four states — Iowa, North Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming — have no A hospitals.
