9 Bergen County High Schools Rank In Top 50 In New Jersey

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — If you're looking for a town to raise your family, the quality of the schools is often a major consideration.

According to the 2026 Best School Districts in America list, recently released by the education ranking service Niche, the best school district in New Jersey is the Northern Valley Regional High School District. The district is based in Demarest in Bergen County.

Niche also released their 2026 Best Public High Schools in America list, drawing from 93,000 public high schools nationwide.

Bergen County ended up with nine high schools in the top 50. Two are countywide schools that require applications, but the rest are regular public schools.

Niche said its rankings, now in the 11th year, are derived from test scores, data from government agencies, and input from students, alumni, and parents.

Top 50 NJ High Schools

According to them, New Jersey’s top 50 public high schools are:

5. Union County Magnet High School (Union County)

7. Dr. Ronald E. McNair Academic High School (Jersey City)
8. Biotechnology High School (Monmouth County)
9. Academy for Allied Health Science (Union County)
10. Northern Highlands Regional High School (Allendale)
11. Bergen County Technical High School – Teterboro (Bergen County)
12. West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South (West Windsor-Plainsboro)
13. Union County Vocational-Technical High School (Union County)
14. Livingston Senior High School (Livingston)
15. PCTI Stem Academy (Passaic County)
16. Millburn High School (Millburn Township)
17. Tenafly High School (Tenafly)

According to Niche, the top five public high schools in America are:

3. Massachusetts Academy for Math & Science
4. South Carolina Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics
5. Stuyvesant High School (New York City)
