Barstool Sports Personality 'Large' Gets Dog Back From Bergen County Cops, He Says

A local celebrity had a furry happy ending when police in Ridgewood returned his pooch.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — When someone finds a lost dog, they often reach out to the local police, who search for the animal's owner and sometimes post a cute mugshot on social media.

On New Year's Eve, police in Ridgewood didn't have to go that far.

Barstool Sports personality Michael McCarthy, also known as "Large," explained how he got his furry friend back quickly that night, praising the local police in a social media post.

"Just conducted a midnight prison break," McCarthy posted on Facebook on Dec. 31. "Shoutout to Ridgewood Police for getting O’Shea back home safely. Greatest local police in NJ."

McCarthy blogs about finance and other matters for Barstool Sports.

Police Chief Forest Lyons said last week, "I don’t have the exact number of dogs we get per month, but we have been very successful when we bring them back to headquarters and put them on our social media. We get them reunited with their family very quickly."

McCarthy wrote, "Friendly reminder to get your pet a location chip… He was not wearing a collar, but they still had my dog 'in custody' within a half hour of being lost and gave us a call only minutes after that."

One social media commenter said that a GPS locator is important as well, not just the chip.
