HARRINGTON PARK, NJ - In the wake of mass shootings across the country, a Bergen County school district has installed bulletproof doors to transform its classrooms into safe rooms, according to reports.

Harrington Park purchased 50 new steel doors from Englewood Cliffs-based Remo Security Doors to replace the wooden doors at the district's sole K-8 school building, NBC New York reported. Each door cost around $2,500 and was purchased using emergency funding, the outlet said.

Superintendent Adam Fried told NBC doing whatever they could to create a safe environment for students was a "no brainer."

NJ.com reported that the Bergen County school district is the first to fully incorporate Remo doors throughout a building. Up until now, about 30 districts have installed a single door as a demo, the newspaper said.

The doors are constructed of components used in fire doors and a high security forced entry and bullet resistant door, according to nj.com. The school doors are made of two 18-gauge galvanized steel sheets that are reinforced with steel bars and a polycarbonate window.

“Its about time and frustration,” Fried told the publication. “We need time to get to a safe place and we want to frustrate the active shooter.”
