Bones, Skull Found Buried In Teaneck Yard: Cops

The remains were discovered by a resident who was having his yard excavated, according to police.

TEANECK, NJ - Human skeletal remains, including a portion of a skull, were found buried in the front yard of a home in Teaneck.

The initial discovery was made Wednesday afternoon, when a Van Arsdale Place resident contacted police to report that possible remains were discovered while he was having part of his yard excavated during a home improvement project, according to Teaneck Deputy Police Chief John A. Faggello.

Further investigation confirmed several bones, including one that appeared to resemble a portion of a human skull, were found in the yard, and excavation work at the home was halted, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Musella added that the remains found so far "appear to be old," but "an attempt to date them would be premature at this time." Authorities will continue to search the property in an attempt to recover additional remains, the prosecutor said.

"The search of the scene is ongoing, as is the investigation regarding the origin of the bones," he said. "Additional bones have been recovered. At this time, no foul play is suspected and the current homeowners are not implicated in any way as to how the bones came to be on their property."
