Contractor Caused Gas Leak In Glen Rock: Police

Police said homeowners should learn a lesson from a gas leak in Glen Rock last week.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A Glen Rock contractor installing a fence last week accidentally struck a gas line, police in that town said on Monday.

Police said that just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, a contractor working at Garvey Place struck the underground line while digging, prompting an emergency response from Glen Rock firefighters.

Crews arrived to assess the leak, secure the area, and monitor conditions until a PSE&G team could arrive, police said.

PSE&G repaired the line.

"No injuries were reported, and the situation was brought under control without requiring evacuations," police said.

But they said there's a lesson in the incident.

Residents and contractors are reminded to always call 811 before digging, police said, even for small projects like fence installation or landscaping. That way, they can ensure underground utilities are properly marked and avoid hazardous situations.

During the period from Nov. 10-16 (through Sunday), 2025, the Glen Rock police handled 324 calls for service.
